Greetings from Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland.
After a long drive from Invercargill, we are in -finally- Te Anau, Fiordland.
We absolutely enjoyed this long drive as we made a lot of photo-stops. That's a good sign.
Snow-capped mountains and amazing landscape. We are entering the World heritage area: Fiordland National Park. It's actually hard sometimes to concentrate on the road, because the scenery is extra ordinary. After our arrival in Te Anau we immediatly looked for a camping ground, today we will pitch our tent again, because the weather is great again so let's benefit, given the fact that this area gets the most rain of all Aotearoa... After lodging, getting some food. Te Anau is really a place for tourist, it reminds a bit of Lake Tahoe in the US, without the Bleu lake. Today we booked a scenic flight to Doubtful Sound, one of the most famous of all NZ's Fiords (Milford Sound still top charting Nr 1). The flight took us 40 minute in a 6-seater seaplane Cessna. Tremendous experience. For Nicole, this was her first seaplane take-off. I had my maiden seaplane adventure years ago in British Columbia, Canada.
We took -of course- many picture. Sometimes it wasn't easy to take a nice shot as we had to deal with a strong southwesterly wind, in other word, the flight was rather bumpy. This was undoubtly some of the best flightseeing. The pilot gave us a lot of info in and around Doubtful Sound and even made a detour to show us one of the LOTR filming area's.
you will enjoy this later when we upload pictures.
Tomorrow (Monday 6 March) we go cruising in Milford Sound.
