Travel Story «Tekapo, Pukaki or Dunedin?»

Today, 01 March 2006! From Dunedin

Kia Ora!

We are now already in Dunedin, Otago. We are well ahead of schedule and this is thanks to the weather and of course the car! The weather today is crap. We deal with the first NZ rain, and it rains non-stop.
Yesterday we arrived in Dunedin, very nice city, nicer than Christchurch (sorry Wim & Caley), great victorian architecture and a spectacular setting.

We have seen a lot of things last couple of days, after the lakes, Pukaki and Tekapo, both great locations. the colors of the lakes were turquoise. Enroute these lakes the scenery changes every 20 minutes, mountain ranges, vast open plains, green fields and of course, sheep are all around, they are really everywhere, even at the beach, imagine! We spend also a day in the Pinguin capital of New zealand. we witnessed the crossing of yellow-eyed pinguins. Very special. Something Zoo's worldwide cannot compete with.

Pictures I have uploaded are not including our time along the coast from Oamaru to Dunedin, that will be for the next session.

Tomorrow we are going off the beaten track and leave the German tourist hordes behind us. Let's step into the wild world of Catlins Forest and enjoy some of the world's ancient natural splendours.
we will be there for a couple of days, depending on the weather and road conditions, and not to forget the reliability of our... car..!

More news and pictures later, that's it for now.
