Travel Story «Koh Phi Phi»

Thailand | 0 Comments 19 March 2006 - Last Update 19 March 2006

Hello All,
Well as Aisling Mention we left Koh Phangan and headed for Koh Phi Phi. The journey included a taxi to boat then a "SLOW" boat to the port on main land. this journey took seven hours very slow i have to say. we then stopped off for breakfast where we were picked up by bus and brought to an office in Karbi where we unloaded luggage and waited 25 minutes to then put our lugggage back on to bus we just got off. Got to main port in Karbi which was lovely and had short boat trip on what seemed like a speed boat compared to our last one! arrived in Koh Phi Phi at lunch time. I have to say first impressions where fab. clear blue sea and sun with a gentle sea breeze. we booked into Tropical garden resort before arriving. this resort was a bit of a trek from the pier but it is different compared to previous places we have stayed. our wooden bungalows are situated on a hill surrounded by green foliage they have some really nice little homely touches. only one complaint air conditioning on this island costs a small fortune so have to live with a fan. that night after a little nap some headed of a dip in the pool, then food and we headed off to locate an irish bar for the next days st patrick days celebrations.
St Patrick day started on the beach with swimming, sun, mass and of course a beer (just like home!). the late evening was spent in Jordans irish bar where the "hug and irish girl today" t-shirts got a bit of attention. there was music, attempted irish dancing to riverdance, irish punch and meeting of new friends who helped in our celebration of the day.
The day after well we were bit late of bed but after a hearty breakfast it was decided a day chilling out by the pool was in order in perparations for the big match. we headed back to the scene of the previous days crime Jordans bar to watch the game which was played a 12.30am our time. There was alot of shouting, nail biting and sick feelings in our stomach troughout the 80mins. i think i would have died if i was at home for it. after the final whistle it felt like we had played the game ourselves. Anyway as we all know our boys came through for us and got the triple crown. we had a little celebration of our own for the boys! Well done Ireland
That brings us up to today Sunday(I think) today we decieded to take in some of the island but in two very different ways. Emily and Aisling after breakfast (which i thought may have been the last supper) headed off to do Cliff Jumping! yes thats right jumping off a cliff. the ladies were taken to the site where they had to climb up a rock face to a ledge at which point they jumped off!!!!!! Before i go any futher i would like to say both are alive. i would like to say both our in the full of their health but they have to be mental to do in first place but there is a few bruises from the landing in water and a few scrapes from climbing. they then went on to snorkelling and a tour of Kho Phi Phi Lay. Myself and Grainne took the sunset tour, which included visiting monkey beach which was not to happy about since had no rabies injection. they were grand not really that cute or cuddly! we snorkelled to and from beach which was amazing the colours of fish and coral is unreal. We saw what is called a Viking cave where they harvest a certain birds nest that is made from the birds spit. the chinese love this as a soup and 1 kg is worth 300,000 baht . the average wage here is 4000 baht a month! go figure. we went on to go to Maya Beach where part of  "The Beach" was flimed it was lovely. we snorkelled back to boat where we ate dinner while trying to see sun set pretty cloudy today but was still nice. on way back we were treated to light storm off on the horzion which is still going on and is cool!
Well that brings us up to date. Emily and myself are heading on a shark watch in the morning a 6.45am which should be cool get a refund if you dont see any sharks! We plan to leave Koh Phi Phi on tuesday nad head for Phuket. so we will update again from there.
