Travel Story «Th Khao San!!»

Thailand | 0 Comments 02 March 2006 - Last Update 14 March 2006

Hello all! Aisling here making her debut as blog keeper for this particular day. Have to say I'm quite nervous after reading Grainne and Emilys in depth descriptions of our trip so far. Please don't expect the same here I've got 10 minutes! Okay so on day 3 em and lorna began the day by heading off to purchase bags around the corner, along with breakfast in bed (croissants) for me and gra (lets hope this continues!!). I had quick dip in the pool and we packed and got taxi to our Khao San Palace (hu hmmm).Rooms extremely basic here and are around 5euro each a night. We then began our sight-seeing by visiting the Grand Palace. What makes it so hard to find these places is that you can't stop for 2 seconds to check out the map without being surrounded by tuk-tuk drivers or touts. Eventually we did get there though and we have amazing photo's that we will upload very soon (sorry I've taken it upon myself to be the one who reads the digital camera manuals and figures it all out - promise to do so on the 11 hour bus journey to ko samui!!) Hopefully these photo's will also contain images of lorna and grainnes FAB sarongs that they had to rent to be allowed in (hee hee). Onto the oldest temple in bangkok (I think, don't really care - emily will correct me though) and at this point I was feeling pretty buddha'd out!!But have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with the reclining buddha - wow! Again there will be some photo's to let you get an idea of the sheer size of it. Then a tuk-tuk drive back to Khao San road - now I had been constantly harping on about this and wanted to get one - girls a little more reluctant grainne especially. But boy did I get my comeupance - four of us were squished in as we sped through the streets of bangkok, crossing five lanes of traffic at one point (I counted) and driving on the WRONG side of the road!!! My expression for the latter caught on camera! Crazy but fun! Then back to our palace, quick change and back out for dinner (mango inn - quite nice)and drinks - IN A PETROL STATION. Yes you read correctly - Shell to be exact. Grainne was a little perturbed by the situation - open candles, cigarette's and petrol pumps combined were the issue here I think! Our first bucket of that thai combination (whiskey, coke&red bull) was consumed only after myself and Em made the mistake of ordering shots of moonshine first by accident. Uggghh - but we survived we're here (just about). Then onto another pub here on the road which was 24 hours. It's official Irish people do not know when to stop drinking if not made leave the establishment - and at approx 8.30am some stragglers finally made it home (I won't go into specifics here) Okay girls are waiting (I'd love to say patiently but I doubt it) outside so I'd better sign off. As you can imagine day 4 was a bit of a write-off but we'll keep you updated, Bye for now, Ais xxx
