Travel Story «The Adventure Begins!»

Hi everyone!!!

Well, we’re off on our big adventure… although it didn’t start very smoothly. We were delayed out of Sydney and thus missed our connection from Johannesburg to Cape Town . Note- never go to Jo’burg! The most horrible, disorganised, unfriendly city in the world. The computers at the airport were down and noone seemed to know what was going on. Luckily the Western Force were there to entertain us… apparently they had just won their first game ever. They were in very high spirits.

We finally got ourselves on a flight to Cape Town (although that was delayed too). Somehow we found ourselves in business class so Trines could stretch out and sleep and Jac could have a very nice dinner.

Although the trip was horrible and we were travelling for over 24 hours, waking up on our first day to perfect weather and a view of Table Mountain made it all worthwhile.

Being the keen exercising guru’s that we are, we set off for an early morning stroll… It looked really close on the map anyway… 2 hours and a lot of sweat and hills later, we reached the cable car halfway up Table Mt. It was worth it once we got to the top but didn’t make for pretty photos!

Next day we went to the Cape Town Waterfront and took a tour of Robben Island . We got a ferry to the island, bus tour around the island, and we were taken on a tour of the prison by an ex-political prisoner. It was amazing how candid and non-bitter our guide was about the whole situation.

Thursday saw us hire a car (manual, no power steering!) to drive down the coast to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope . Again another very hot day as witnessed by some of our very horrible photos. The drive was magnificent through the coastal towns and the view from the point was amazing. South African drivers are crazy! No speed limits, ambiguous lane changes and people and animals on the side of the roads made it very interesting! We saw some baboons mating on the side of the road and got up close and personal with some ostriches as well.

Final day in Cape Town we thought we would enjoy ourselves with a full day tour of the Winelands. We got picked up before 9 and had our first glass of bubbles in our hands by 10! Absolutely stunning vineyards with the mountains as the backdrop. We visited 4 properties and also had some cheese and chocolate tastings as well. On the way home we visited a Cheetah Sanctuary where Jac petted her first (and probably last) cheetah. Apparently they will be extinct in 10 years!

Yesterday we left Cape Town and made our way up the coast to reach Knysna (the K is silent, Trines is still having troubles with this!). It’s a beautiful town, unfortunately we have our first day with clouds, but decided anyway to do a canoe tour this afternoon through the Knysna heads. After this we will make our way tomorrow to Storms River , The Adventure Activity Town, although we will not be partaking in the World’s Highest Bungeeeeee ever!

Missing everyone.
Love Trines and Jac xoxo
