De zenuwen beginnen op te komen en de vlinders te kriebelen in de buik. Nog 1 week en het is zo ver !! Voo...

14 jun 2009 | Saul
Hamjambo and Karibu Arusha! The mzungu capital of Tanzania, where you can't walk ten steps without being offered a safari, a painting, or some ominous sounding 'stuff'. Here, I am staying in the world's smallest hotel room, in Arusha backpackers, where the room must have been built around the bed. I...

Kwaheri Kilombero

20 mei 2009 | Saul
The title says it all...we leave in less than two weeks, which is completely depressing. Kilombero has become a home to me and I will miss the place and the people loads when we go. I think we'll be missed a bit, too (after the good riddance party of course). I told my Standard 6s I was going in two...

We think that we have spent about 150 hours travelling, including, I think, 5 or 6 nights spent on the road (or tracks). I am now a veteran at falling...

Freshi! Today is our last day in Kilombero before heading off on our Easter travels. We get the 6am bus to Dar, spend the day sorting out visas, getting dollars and supplies for the 38 hour train journey, which we begin the following afternoon. It is supposed to be a proper old fashioned train, and ...

Ruaha Internet Cafe

Mambo? Poa! Mzima? Mzima! Freshi? Freshi! Shwari Cabiza! Safi. Kiswahili greetings aside, today is an exciting day. I was walking down the main road of Ruaha, our local village, yesterday, when I sign in a shop window stopped me in my tracks. "Internet cafe". I though, has this been here a...

Goats and Publicity Stunts

02 mrt 2009 | Saul
Habari za jioni? Am on Nick's internet again, having just eaten roast chicken and assorted leftover barbeque meat and veg. Not bad, eh?
